Today’s topic, the new meme/internet trend of LARPing!

Now, you may ask: Justin, what the sigma is LARPing? I’m glad you asked, my dear bitch!

LARPs can be viewed as forming a distinct category of RPG because of two unique features: (a) The players physically embody their characters, and (b) the game takes place in a physical frame. Embodiment means that the physical actions of the player are regarded as those of the character. LARP participants may dress in the costume of their character and carry appropriate physical props (e.g., an 18th century militia LARP participant may wear a military uniform and carry a musket).

LARPing is cool in its own feat, immersing members in a fantasy or realism setting, but what is LARPing over the internet? Basically, people pretend to be internet personas (think PewDiePie, The Living Tombstone, Markiplier, etc), but in the early days of Youtube.

My earliest exposure to this trend is The Larping Tombstone (i.e. The Living Tombstone LARPer, both will be abbreviated as “TLT”). They claim not to use AI (which I think makes it even cooler!) They made a remix of Sneakers O’Toole (a popular Family Guy cutaway gag) in TLT fashion:

I was so immersed in this, I honestly thought it WAS TLT at first… which led me down this rabbit hole. I started looking up LARPers of other YouTubers I loved, such as Markiplier and Idubbz, and sure enough:

I’m excited to see where this trend takes us, as a society, as well as a species.
